Balaton, a diagonal slash of blue on our map and the largest lake in Central Europe, one of Hungary’s most popular tourist destinations was pretty much deserted by the time we rolled up to its shores early in September. With the main holiday season ending in August the ‘kiss me quick’ resorts were closed, the swings hung motionless and the calm waters had taken on the silver grey hue of the sky. I found this little boat at the Tihany Peninsula, where you can almost reach out and touch the opposite shore, and felt it summed up the Balaton for me on that day.

Beautiful!
Thank you
Very peaceful
It was – particularly as there weren’t any holiday makers about!
Simplicity here is the key.
You’re right – and I really love this type of thing. I only wish I could find it closer to home!
Maybe it’s there but it’s not so obvious?….
Sadly I think you’re probably right. Something about not seeing the wood for the trees maybe? …. or worse still, maybe a lack of vision?
No, neither. To take a phrase from ‘The Last Samurai’ – at the point where Tom Cruise keeps getting beaten in sword practice, somebody suggests “too many minds” – suggesting that Cruise was worried about other things. In today’s world it’s not so easy to ‘see’ when we have so many things churning in our minds.
