Let’s return to our travels ….
We navigated our way into the hills of Buda where we were to stay for a couple of days. Sadly too far out to make night photography a practical prospect – a pity as I had hoped for just that opportunity. Originally three cities straddling the Danube with Buda and Óbuda on the west bank and Pest on the east, Budapest was ‘born’ 189 years ago today on 17 November 1823. Still a city with different personalities the question for me was how to encapsulate my impressions of it in a handful of photographs. I have decided on a set of different posts combining both sides of the river and this first one features Buda from Pest,
Pest from Buda
and the magnificent Parliament building, completed in 1904, that legislatively and emotionally connects the two.
Isn’t it frustrating when the light isn’t ‘right’? Still, as I mention on my website I take photographs of my travels rather than claiming to specialise in travel photography and this is one of those cases when perfect light would transform the scene. It’s still frustrating though!

Beautiful Noeline. The funicular railway looks fun. Budapest is not a city I’ve visited so I’m looking forward to your upcoming posts.
Yup – it was fun – and much easier than the walk up to the old city
I’ve been fortunate enough to go to Budapest three times now and there is still plenty more to see and do ….. including a dedicated photography visit!
That second image is pretty incredible I had to look twice, I thought it was two images.
Thanks for the compliment Leanne – much appreciated. Capturing an image that makes you do a ‘double take’ is quite an achievement and it’s great to know that I’ve managed it!
I must say how envious I am of your travels!
And also how much I love that second image, the way the downhill tram leads your eye down to the river, over the the bridge, further guiding the eye to the other half of the beautiful city!
I really love travelling – I only wish there was more time and cash to do more
That’s probably one of my favourites too from Budapest. It was one of those shots that you just know will work well as soon as see it.
