It’s been a while since I posted a colour image – driven to some extent by the fact that we’ve had a particularly dull winter in this part of the world 😦
This image was rescued from the archives and conjures up recollections of an ‘interesting’ day spent at Karlsborg (I think!) on Lake Vättern in Sweden; interesting in that it was a ghost town with most places closed up for the season and barely a soul in sight. A curious mixture of exhaustion and quiet expectation …
Another contributing factor to my lack of posting recently is that I’ve been working on a major update to my website with images divided into more accessible galleries. (Thanks to Michael J. Locke for providing the kick I needed!) I’d really appreciate some feedback so please take a look and let me know what you think – constructive criticism always welcome!

Tell me about it, the white, white and more white is exhausting. Happy to welcome spring and colors!
Would you believe that I’m envious of your snow?! We’ve had grey, grey, grey – but spring is definitely adding some colour at last 🙂
This really is a exceptional shot Noeline! fabulous!
Thank you Adrian 🙂 I find that marinas are normally too chaotic but this had a lovely symmetry to it.
I really like your colour work. Your B& W is also excellent. Your revised website looks great, the categories work very well.
Best wishes
Michael
Thank you very much Michael – and thank you also for prompting me to get on and give my website the once over. It really is much appreciated!
Beautiful image Noeline, I really like this. Mind you, I also love boats!
🙂 Thank you David. I find boats interesting enough to try photographing them but usually fail dismally!
Very attractive image Noeline, love the high key effect, now off to your website
Thank you – it was one of those pale grey days and I was struck how the conditions seemed to emphasise the masts.
Thank you also for offering to view my website – any feedback regarding ease of use, layout etc. would be really appreciated.
Hello Noeline,
As always its a treat to see that you’ve a new blog post. Another stunning image, and I think your website is fantastic with an array of beautiful images. What a shame that we don’t have any wall space left, or I’d be in the market for several. Interesting also that you’re having a grey, late spring down in Hampshire?. Were it not for our garden’s spring flowers, and our first lambs yesterday, I’d be getting fed up with things. Still, we’re at least not suffering in the way the East of USA is.
Best wishes
Julian
Thank you for giving my website a look over – presumably no issues with it? …. and let me know if you ever have an extension! 😀
I’m in Wiltshire, but only about 10 minutes from Hampshire, and it’s been a very grey spring – much like winter 😦 I’m not much of a gardener, ‘slash and burn’ is more my style (!), but a few plants have survived my tender ministrations and are adding cheerful splashes of colour – including a beautifully delicate little blue/mauve and white thing …
This is an exquisite picture – nicely composed and conveying an atmosphere of stillness, silence and space. The large expanses of white add appropriate emphasis to the ‘watercolour’ feel about the boats at anchor. The lightness of touch is very effective. The framing complements the picture perfectly.
Although we didn’t realise until we arrived, I think this was probably quite a holiday/weekend centre. They can feel very ‘dead’ out of season but actually it had a very relaxed atmosphere and you’ve summed it up perfectly – “stillness, silence and space” ….
Strange that a whole town is closed up. I guess if nobody was around… Nevertheless you got an awesome photo of that dead harbour. Congratulation with the new website. I will get over there and have a look.
We tend to do our touring quite late in the summer and have had our fair share of ghost towns – southern Italy being the most extreme; it’s quite a surreal experience!
Thank you for offering to look at my website and I’d really appreciate any constructive criticism you are happy to offer.
nice use of brightness 🙂
Thank you – the pale harmonious colours worked well to enhance the high key effect.
